“LOW, SMITH, RAY, VARDON.” Four golfers, including British golf stars Harry Vardon and Ted Ray, apparently in an exhibition tournament at Baltusorol Club in New Jersey on September 12, 1913, just prior to the 1913 US Open at The Country Club. After the match they took the train back to Brookline, Massachusetts, where they were heavy favorites to win the 1913 US Open being played at The Country Club.
The Qualifying Rounds of the US Open were played on September 16 and 17, while the regular Tournament rounds were played on September 18 and 19. A three-way playoff round between Francis Ouimet, Harry Vardon and Ted Ray was played on September 20, in a thriller that saw Ouimet, the young American, emerge victorious. 11″ x 14″ black & white print.
